Kate middleton 'mania' causes Reiss website to crash

Bob Dowson, director of website monitoring and load testing specialist Site Confidence, an NCC Group company, comments:

Reiss managed to laugh this off by Tweeting about dress ‘mania’, but the fact is that two and a half hours of downtime is damaging to business. All too often e-tailers focus their capacity and performance preparation at key calendar times in the year and neglect to follow it through during the rest of the year.

With the government pledging to bring superfast broadband to everyone in the UK, numbers of online shoppers expecting fast, reliable websites are only going to increase. Consider that in conjunction with the speed at which images of a celebrity with the next must-have item can circulate and it’s clear that online retailers are operating in a volatile environment.

Massive traffic fluctuations are no longer an issue just for social media and news sites to contend with. The competition is fierce; retail website functionality issues affect a company’s revenue and reputation, and send its customers into the open arms of competitors.
