But we know that along with the data itself, some of our customers want training, support and guidance – all of which is included with the service. Site Confidence will always be the first to alert you to performance problems. We pride ourselves on accuracy, timeliness and an avoidance of false positives.
Alerting is based around our double verification testing methodology. Every time we test, we mark the data we receive with a result code. This result code determines whether the test was successful or if there was an issue. If it indicates an issue we immediately re-test using a different connection, server and agent. This ensures that the error is verified so you know that the issue is with your system and not ours.
If the issue is deemed to be of a high severity, then we will send an alert in a number of ways. The configuration of the alerting system ensures that the right person always receives the right information at the correct time. Multiple standard and customisable error conditions can be checked for.
Thresholds can be set against different timing elements to ensure the greatest degree of flexibility in how, where and when the alerts get delivered.
Alerts can be built based on any criteria you choose:
- By type of error and area of monitoring; for example, so only your network experts will be alerted to a server issue.
- By level of seniority, allowing problems to be escalated the longer they are left unattended.
- By time of day, so 9 to 5 employees are not disturbed out of office hours. You can even configure the system to keep ringing until the phone is answered, to minimise the risk of a severe error being ignored in the middle of the night.
- By method of alerting, including SMS, email, voice, XML, pager or RSS.
We deliver the results of our monitoring to customers in a variety of ways, tailored to their specific needs:
- Monitoring portal for operations: the main window to all your results. It has been designed to be intuitive and easy to use, giving you access from anywhere. With its high-level reports as well as the ability to drill down to the details, it provides all the information you need to diagnose performance issues.
- We have also made the reports customisable, giving you an additional element of control, and included features such as roll over graphs and table sorting to make it even easier to see what is happening to your web pages. It’s from the monitoring portal that you have control over your settings, determining to whom, when and for what alerts are sent.
- Management reporting portal: This allows you to customise reports and show the precise trends over time that interest each user. This makes the portal ideal for senior management who need quick access to specific data points to make decisions or review performance. Users can also export customised Word reports to suit specific business reporting requirements. This can be scheduled to be delivered by email at specific times to specific users.
- Customisable data feeds – XML or API: In addition, you can configure your own data feeds. Our XML reports can be fed to you directly, tailored to show the key reports of most value to you, and displayed internally as you wish. Alternatively, you can use our API to integrate our data with your own internal systems for operational convenience or combining data sets – for example, integrating with your internal monitoring systems, analytics results or sales information systems.
At Site Confidence we allow unlimited users within your company to access our monitoring data. However, the system can also be set up so only certain users are granted full access – so nobody who does not have full knowledge of your setup can tamper with the customised reporting system you have created. You can even build your own portal through access to our live data.

When it comes to monitoring your website traffic, many of our customers use Google Analytics. It gives you insight into where your users come from, what they look at when they get there, and how long they stay.
Through Site Confidence’s web performance monitoring system, you can get even more out of this information. Our portal allows you to plot real time Google Analytics data against the speed and performance of your website, so you can see how traffic peaks affect performance and conversely how many users are affected by performance failures.
Site Confidence has what we believe to be the fairest cost model in this space. We simply charge you for what you monitor. We aim to provide as valuable and reliable a service for as reasonable a price as possible.
The model is made up of three components:
- An annual account fee: which includes access to technical resources to help you understand your results, training for your staff either onsite or via WebEx, SMS alerting regardless of the number sent, and unlimited access to support staff to make tweaks to your monitoring.
- The actual monitoring price: driven by the set-up and on-going maintenance effort required. So for example, a static home page monitor will cost less than a user journey as the effort in building and maintaining a script is more significant.
- The frequency of monitoring: the higher the frequency, the more you pay. We can monitor from every minute to every 60 minutes, as you wish.
